The Book : Big Green Purse

Big Green Purse, written by Diane MacEarchern, is a great resource for women wishing to shop greener. By changing our spending habits, Diane believes we can create a "cleaner, greener world", and I agree.

The book begins by recapping environmental problems and discusses principles for green shopping and avoiding greenwashing. The majority of the book then discusses specific ways you can shift your spending on common commodities to positively impact the environment.
  • Go Green-simple suggestions of immediate, green lifestyle changes
  • Make the shift-eco-friendly product recommendations
  • Ecocheap-ways to save money and shop green
  • Shop talk-suggestions for encouraging local merchants to carry more green goods
  • Green at work-how to make your work place more eco-friendly
  • Thumbs up-a rating for products, services, and practices that really live up to their green claims
  • Thumbs down-greenwashing
  • In my house-a green reality check for your home.

New Years Resolution To Save The Earth.

Since I am very concerned about my children's future ( if any) on this planet, I decided that is better to “waste my time “watching the movie than not seeing it at all. I was surprised and the surprise was nice ( although you don't see anything to be happy about in the movie) that somebody so famous took the uneasy job to make us open our eyes and smell the coffee.
It is time, guys!
Here is a list of....things you can actually do to SAVE OUR PLANET and SAVE SOME MONEY too! You would be surprised how many things you can do with little or no effort!
And please, don't wait until tomorrow! Start TODAY!

    Couple of simple rules:
  • Buy products in the largest package you can use and thus avoid excess packaging!
  • Buy products in containers and packages that you know you can recycle! ( Examples are products in commonly recycled containers made from aluminum, steel, plastic and glass)
  • Buy reusable and long lasting items!
  • Use already recycled products!
  • Follow the simple rules of RRR ( Reduce/Reuse/Recycle)!
  • Try to do one thing each day to save our planet! Don’t worry if the savings are minimal. Every little thing counts and every person can make a difference
Simple things you can do every day to save the planet:
  1. Buy rechargeable batteries instead of disposables
  2. Use cloth diapers instead of disposable diapers
  3. Use a digital camera and make digital albums instead of paper ones, use digital frames too.
  4. Don't use paper towels and napkins!
  5. Don't use disposable plates, cups and silverware! Use washable plates, cups, and silverware for parties and picnics instead.
  6. Use an electric razor or hand razor with replaceable blades instead of disposable razors.
  7. Buy high quality/long life tires. They cost less per mile traveled and reduce the problem of disposing of used tires.
  8. Use cloth bags! When buying only a few items, don’t take a bag. Using your own cloth bag instead of plastic or paper bags reduces waste and requires no additional energy.
  9. Check for toilet leaks by adding food coloring to the tank. If the toilet is leaking, color will appear in the bowl within 30 minutes. Check the toilet for worn out, corroded, or bent parts. Consider purchasing LowFlow toilets that can reduce indoor water use by 20%.
  10. Install a toilet dam or displacement device such as a bag or bottle to cut down on the amount of water needed for each flushing. Be sure installation does not interfere with operating parts.
  11. Avoid unnecessary flushing. Dispose of tissues, insects, and other similar waste in the trash rather than the toilet.
  12. Replace your showerhead with an ultra low-flow version, saving up to 2.5 gallons per minute.
  13. Take shorter showers. Try a "Navy" shower; get wet, turn off the water, soap and scrub, then turn the water on to rinse.
  14. In the shower, decrease the flow to achieve the comfortable water, instead of increasing the hot or cold water flow to adjust the water temperature, try decreasing the flow to achieve a comfortable water temperature.
  15. Don't let the water run while shaving, washing your face, or brushing your teeth.
  16. Store drinking water in the refrigerator rather than letting the tap run to get a cool glass of water.
  17. Do not use running water to thaw meat or other frozen foods. Defrost them overnight in the refrigerator, or by using the defrost setting on your microwave.
  18. Consider installing an instant water heater on your kitchen sink so you don’t have to let the water run while it heats up. This will reduce heating costs for your household.
  19. When washing dishes by hand, fill one sink or basin with soapy water. Quickly rinse under a slow stream of water from the faucet.
  20. Fully load automatic dishwashers; they use the same amount of water no matter how much is in them.

    1. Happy New Year and let us pray to be wiser, luckier and healthier in 2011!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

ONE EARTH, LET'S BE ONE TO SAVE OUR WORLD!

WE live in a planet which getting sick day by day, Our Earth, our only home and our only hope for our survival and for our better future. We need to take care and do everything we can to save our Mother. We must be one to save the future generation.

One Earth, One Home and a Mother to billions of people.
All of us love to decorate our houses, keep it clean and beautiful, and when thieves steal our valuables and destroy some of the items in our house, what do we do? We call every police in town and have 'em behind bars as soon as possible. Well, that's what we do, after all we love our house and we don't want anyone stealing and ruining our homes.
Well, Earth is OUR HOME, if we can care so much about our man-made houses, why not our natural Earth, which is a Home to billions of us. We all are culprits here, taking away anything we get and leaving it blank. Houses can be replaced again and again, but NOT EARTH.

There was a time, when our ancestors didn't knew anything about Climate change or Global warming, because it didn't existed. They lived under the blanket of fresh air, beside the green forest as far as our eyes could see, and amongst the wild life, where it was easy to get their daily prey. Everyone slept eagerly to wake up for the better and more beautiful morning, cleaner air, more laughter and to wake and find their loved ones sleeping peacefully with lots of hope for a better tomorrow. But, today, so called Modern World, only half or maybe three fourth of the population of the world know about this, and the rest? Well, the news haven't even reached there and some people know about this, but either don't believe it or don't care about it.
People now-a-days, sleep with fear in their heart. With questions, in their mind -Will I wake up tomorrow to see my family? Will I be able to go through the day without bombs destroying my house? Yet again, another man's anger destroying another innocent's life and Nature's life as well. Just another man's anger and wanting for more.
What more do you want?? When all of us has been gifted with everything in life. Due to our addiction for more, we are taking an innocent's life, Our Earth. We are shredding her gown of green, her blanket of air, we keep on digging her body of soil, so fragile.
It feels like a Fairy Tale, now. Every beautiful things used to be there, in the golden days.
Everyone needs to be informed, everyone needs to know and needs to be shown the proof of dying Mother Earth.
Snow's melting, trees which used to be as tall as the Amazon is fading slowly, the ocean full of wild-life is drying faster, the horror of famine is growing and so are the anger of a men, which follows war at the core of his anger.
The ultimate result? Been there done that. Need more proof?
1st World War, 2nd world war, the wars, which ruined everything, didn't even leave our Earth untouched.
Our main concern is today and tomorrow, it is late but BETTER LATE THEN NEVER. Let us act now to save our Home, OUr Mother Earth.
If we can do so many things to beautify and save our houses, leave alone houses, we'll do anything to save our rented apartments, than why not our Earth?
Repent before it's too late, inspire everyone to save our Sick Earth, let the light shine, let the air become pure and fresh, let the trees grow wild, let the animals run free, let the children of tomorrow be Proud of us, for what we have done Today.
We have taken enough form OUR EARTH, NOT IT'S TIME WE GIVE SOMETHING BACK, HER LIFE.
When someone helps us, we return the favor in so many ways, so why not return the favor to our Earth?
THE FUTURE IS IN OUR HANDS.
Let us be one, let the billions and billions become one to save our ONE AND ONLY ONE EARTH, OUR HOME AND OUR MOTHER PLANET.
Together we can do it. Together we can save the future of millions and biggest of all, we can save OUR EARTH.
TOGETHER WE CAN!

I thank you to all the Gentlemen and Gentlewomen who are doing everything they can to help save the Earth.
